Hydrogenated Nitrile Rubber O-ring Seal (HNBR)

(2) Physical and chemical properties

Hydrogenated nitrile rubber O-ring seals are obtained by selectively hydrogenating the butadiene group in nitrile rubber. The performance of hydrogenated nitrile rubber O-ring seals depends on the CAN content (18% -50%) and carbon carbon bond saturation. Its main characteristics are: good heat resistance, organic peroxide sulfurized materials can be continuously used for more than 1000 hours in air at 160 ℃, while NBR loses its continuous use value at 150 ℃; Excellent oil resistance, significantly superior to corresponding NBR and NBR/PVC blends in terms of fuel resistance and alcohol based fuel performance; Better low-temperature resistance than NBR; Outstanding resistance to ozone aging and various media (hot water, acid, alkali, alcohol). Its mechanical properties are also superior to ordinary NBR. Has excellent corrosion resistance, tensile resistance, tear resistance, and compression deformation characteristics.

Six applications

HNBR is widely used in the automotive and refrigeration industries. It can be used as a system seal for engines and other seals that come into contact with fuel. It is also an ideal material for making synchronous toothed belts, multi wedge belts, and variable speed V-belts for engines. Due to the requirements of ecological environment protection, the old refrigerant R22 is gradually being replaced by new refrigerants. In the past, chloroprene rubber or fluororubber seals were commonly used, but hydrogenated nitrile rubber has also been widely used in new refrigerants such as R134a, 410A, and 407C. In the nuclear industry, hydrogenated nitrile rubber can also be used as a sealing component for nuclear power plants due to its radiation resistance.
