DESCRIPTION / Introduction

Product Information

The Chem Ring seal combines the elasticity and sealing properties of rubber with the chemical resistance of Teflon. It is composed of an inner core made of silicone or Viton rubber and a relatively thin Teflon FEP or Teflon PFA outer cover. This rubber Teflon seal has excellent sealing performance. Rubber O-rings are prone to wear, have poor resistance to chemical corrosion and gas permeation, while pure Telfon O-rings have higher hardness and compression resistance but lower elasticity. The externally coated Teflon FEP/Teflon PFA O-ring has good resistance to swelling and chemical stability (unless it is corroded by alkali metals, fluorine, and some halides at high temperatures), and has good elasticity near the rubber O-ring. Telfon FEP/Teflon PFA has a very low friction coefficient (only 0.1~0.2) and excellent gas permeability resistance, which makes Chem Ring seals truly suitable for harsh environments.

function

The combination of seamless and uniformly dense Teflon FEP/Teflon PFA outer coating and rubber core ensures consistent sealing performance of the Chem Ring seal ring as a whole. The elasticity and compression of each point on the seal ring are uniform, and it can still be repeatedly installed and used under continuous pressure. As the pressure of the medium increases, the sealing ring as a whole is compressed. Chen Ring sealing ring is like a high viscosity liquid, transmitting the pressure acting on it in all directions without any reduction.

compressibility

The presence of Telfon FEP outer coating gives Chem Ring sealing rings good resistance to hardening and brittleness, while the inner core made of silicone rubber or Viton rubber allows the sealing ring to maintain good elasticity even at high temperatures of 205 ℃. The sealing performance comparison of three types of O-ring seals, Kalrez rubber, Viton rubber, and Chem Ring coated with FEP, in a compression device is shown in the figure. The test results indicate that the Chem Ring seal formed by combining the physical properties of silicone rubber or Viton rubber with the chemical properties of Teflon FEP/Teflon PFA has good compression resistance while maintaining rubber properties. The manufacturing of Chem Ring seals requires strict quality control, using a special process to completely wrap the Teflon FEP polymer around the rubber core, while ensuring that this O-ring has the required standard tolerances. The information used indicates that we have a good quality commitment to Chem Ring products, which is based on performance testing and strict control to ensure customer satisfaction and safe use of this product. Compared to any other rubber or pure Teflon O-ring, Chem Ring seals have unparalleled sealing performance and long lifespan, especially when used in harsh media.

material

Teflon FEP and Teflon PFA are essentially similar, but Teflon PFA has better high-temperature resistance than Teflon FEP

Applicable temperature range

Teflon FEP shell: -60 ℃~205 ℃ can be used for a short period of time at a high temperature of 260 ℃

Teflon PFA shell: -60 ℃~260 ℃ can be used for a short period of time at a high temperature of 300 ℃

Solid Chem Ring seals are preferred and widely used in static and dynamic seals. Hollow silicone rubber Chem Ring seals are generally made with larger wire diameters and are used in static sealing. Their hardness and compression resistance are lower than those of solid core Chem Ring seals.

hardness

The average hardness of Chem Ring seals made of different materials is:

Solid silicone rubber: 85-90

Solid Viton rubber: 90-95

Hollow silicone rubber: 75-80

Installation instructions for Chem Ring seals

1. The installation or passage of Chem Ring seals should be smooth, free of burrs, grooves, and sharp corners, with a cross-sectional area of 20 milliinches for the inner hole and 10 milliinches for the shaft.

2. Apply clean light oil or grease to lubricate the surface of the Chem Ring seal ring and the relevant parts in contact.

3. If it is difficult to install the Chem Ring seal on the shaft, it can be immersed in hot water for a few minutes to expand. This softened and expanded O-ring is relatively easy to install. Install this O-ring when it is hot, and wait for it to cool down to restore its original size.

4. Do not bend the Chem Ring O-ring too vigorously, otherwise it may cause wrinkles in the Teflon and affect its use.

The required compression amount for Chem Ring seals is as follows

Static sealing state: 15% -20%

Dynamic sealing state: 10% -12%

Pneumatic state: 7% -8%

cross section

The Chem Ring with O-shaped cross-section is a standard product, but square and rectangular cross-section Chem Ring seals can also be made. This type of seal is suitable for larger sealing surfaces and can withstand greater positive pressure. Its installation size can be the same as that of the Chem Ring with O-shaped cross-section, but it requires lower compression.

The application of O-shaped section Chem Ring seals is very common, while square or rectangular section Chem Ring seals are usually used in certain specific situations. Please contact our company or distributor for consultation before placing an order.

The design of the Chem Ring sealing ring with a rectangular cross-section is consistent with the sealing surface of the end cap with a nominal aperture. This type of sealing gasket is called KAMLOCK, and the size series of KAMLOCK with different specifications and inner diameters covered with Teflon FEP/PFA is also complete with Chem Ring.

Chemical corrosion resistance

The externally coated Teflon FEP/Teflon PFA is a basic component of Chem Ring and has excellent resistance to chemical corrosion. At normal operating temperatures, Teflon FEP/Teflon PFA is only affected by a few chemicals. Here are only listed incompatible chemicals, such as some strong metal bases, fluorine, and some halides that are incompatible with Teflon FEP/Teflon PFA.

When in contact with Teflon FEP (recommended maximum temperature of 204 ℃/400F)/Teflon PFA (recommended maximum temperature of 260 ℃/500F), some high concentrations of chemicals will react with it. At high temperatures, Teflon FEP/Teflon PFA will be corroded by organic compounds such as 80% NaOH and KOH, metal hydrides such as boric acid (B2 H6), aluminum chloride, ammonia (NH3), and some amino acids (NH2) and imines (R=NH). When the temperature reaches 250 ℃/480F, it will also be eroded by the chronic oxidation reaction of 70% nitric acid.

If used in these extreme situations, the product must also undergo special testing. In addition to the mentioned chemicals, CHEM-RING typically exhibits chemical inertness towards other chemicals.
